Medication Name: Megamox 457mg Suspension 70ml

Active Ingredients (per 5 ml):

• Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 400 mg

• Clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) 57 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Broad-spectrum antibiotic (penicillin group, β-lactamase inhibitor combination)

Dosage Form:
Oral suspension — for pediatric use

Indications:

• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Bone and joint infections

• Dental infections

Mechanism of Action:
Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid inhibits β-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, restoring the efficacy of amoxicillin.

Dosage and Administration:

• Children (based on amoxicillin component): 45–90 mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours.

• Shake the bottle well before each dose.

• Administer at the start of a meal to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort and improve absorption.

• Reconstitute the dry powder with boiled and cooled water up to the indicated mark and shake vigorously.

Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort

• Skin: rash, urticaria

• Rare: jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, allergic reactions

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients allergic to penicillins or β-lactam antibiotics.

• Adjust dosage in patients with renal impairment.

• Discontinue if rash or signs of hypersensitivity develop.

Storage:

• Store the reconstituted suspension in a refrigerator (2–8°C).

• Discard unused portion after 7 days.

• Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
