Composition

• Silver Sulfadiazine 0.25% (antibacterial agent commonly used in burn management)

Indications

• First- and second-degree burns

• Prevention of bacterial infection in burn wounds

• Minor cuts and abrasions at risk of infection

Mechanism of Action

• Silver ions disrupt bacterial cell membranes and prevent growth

• Broad-spectrum coverage against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, including Pseudomonas

Dosage & Administration

• Route: Topical

• Clean the affected area gently

• Apply a thin, uniform layer once or twice daily or as directed

• Can be used with or without a dressing depending on wound condition

Contraindications

• Allergy to sulfonamides or silver-based products

• Not recommended for premature infants or newborns

• Avoid use near the eyes

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment

• May delay wound healing if overused

• Stop use if irritation or rash develops

• Not for long-term use on large body areas

Side Effects

• Mild burning on application

• Skin discoloration (temporary)
