Gastrobiotic 550mg 20 Tablets

Medication Name: Gastrobiotic 550 mg Tablets (20 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Rifaximin 550 mg

Pharmacologic Class: Non-systemic (gut-targeted) antibiotic – rifamycin derivative

Indications:

• Traveler’s diarrhea caused by non-invasive Escherichia coli

• Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D)

• Hepatic encephalopathy (to reduce recurrence of episodes)

• Bacterial overgrowth or intestinal infections due to susceptible organisms

Dosage and Administration:
Adults:

• Traveler’s diarrhea: 200 mg every 8 hours for 3 days

• IBS-D: 550 mg every 8 hours for 14 days

• Hepatic encephalopathy: 550 mg every 12 hours (continuous treatment)

• Take orally with or without food.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• Follow physician instructions strictly.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to rifaximin, rifamycin derivatives, or any component of the formulation

• Severe diarrhea with blood or high fever (possible invasive bacterial infection)

• Caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh C)

Precautions:

• Use with caution in liver disease; plasma concentrations may increase.

• Not recommended for systemic infections because absorption from the gut is minimal.

• Avoid unnecessary use to prevent bacterial resistance.

• Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding not well established — use only if clearly needed.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain or bloating

• Headache or dizziness

• Constipation or diarrhea

• Fatigue

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Hypersensitivity reactions (rash, urticaria, facial swelling)

• Severe diarrhea due to Clostridium difficile (rare)

Storage Conditions:

• Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture.

• Keep out of reach of children.
