Cefalexin 1000mg

Pharmacological Class:
First-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:
Used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Respiratory tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Urinary tract infections

• Ear, nose, and throat infections

• Bone and joint infections

Mechanism of Action:
Cefalexin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to cell lysis and death of the bacteria.

Dosage:

• Typical adult dose: 500mg to 1g every 6–12 hours, depending on infection severity.

• Duration of treatment is usually 7–14 days or as directed by a physician.

• Can be taken with or without food; taking it with food may reduce stomach upset.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; dose adjustment may be needed.

• Cross-sensitivity may occur in patients allergic to penicillins or other cephalosporins.

• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early.

• Avoid alcohol during the treatment period.
