Medication Name: Triocept 21 Tablets (Pack of 6 Strips)

Active Ingredients (per tablet):

• Ethinylestradiol 0.03 mg

• Levonorgestrel 0.05 mg (in varying doses across the triphasic regimen)

Pharmacological Class:
Triphasic combined oral contraceptive pill (estrogen + progestogen).

Dosage Form:
Film-coated tablets — 21 tablets per strip (each strip contains three color-coded phases with varying hormone levels).

Indications:

• Contraception (prevention of pregnancy)

• Regulation of menstrual cycle

• Reduction of menstrual pain and blood loss

• Management of hormonal imbalance-related irregular cycles

Mechanism of Action:

• Ethinylestradiol inhibits ovulation by suppressing gonadotropin (FSH and LH) secretion.

• Levonorgestrel thickens cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to pass, and alters the endometrium to prevent implantation.

• The triphasic dosing pattern mimics the natural hormonal cycle, aiming to reduce hormonal side effects.

Dosage:
Take one tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, following the color-coded order on the blister pack. Then take a 7-day pill-free interval, during which withdrawal bleeding usually occurs.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in women with history of venous or arterial thrombosis, severe liver disease, or hormone-dependent tumors.

• Avoid use in smokers over 35 years old.

• Some medications (antibiotics, anticonvulsants, herbal remedies like St. John’s wort) may reduce effectiveness.

Common Side Effects:
