Triacor 5/5 mg (10 Tablets)

Active Ingredients:

• Amlodipine 5 mg (Calcium channel blocker)

• Atenolol 5 mg (Beta‑blocker)

Therapeutic Class:
Combination antihypertensive – Calcium channel blocker + Beta-blocker

Indications:

• Essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults, especially when monotherapy with either agent is insufficient.

• May be used in patients with angina pectoris (chest pain) requiring dual mechanism control.

Dosage:

• Usual adult dose: One tablet once daily, preferably at the same time each day.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Dose adjustment may be necessary based on blood pressure response and tolerance.

Mechanism of Action:

• Amlodipine: Blocks calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, causing vasodilation and lowering blood pressure.

• Atenolol: Selective beta₁-blocker that reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and oxygen demand of the heart.

• Combination provides synergistic blood pressure control through complementary mechanisms.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe bradycardia or heart block

  • Cardiogenic shock

  • Hypotension

  • Severe heart failure

  • Hypersensitivity to either component

• Use with caution in:

  • Asthma or COPD (atenolol may worsen symptoms)

  • Diabetes mellitus (atenolol may mask hypoglycemia)

  • Severe liver impairment (amlodipine metabolism)

• Monitor blood pressure and heart rate regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness, fatigue, or lightheadedness

• Slow heart rate (bradycardia)

• Peripheral edema (swelling of hands/feet)

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

• Gastrointestinal upset (nausea)

• Rare: palpitations, rash, or shortness of breath
