Medication Name: Tinifloxacin 20 Tablets

Active Ingredient:
Tinidazole + Ciprofloxacin (combination antibiotic; formulation may vary by manufacturer)

Pharmacological Class:
Antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent (fluoroquinolone + nitroimidazole combination)

Indications:
Used to treat mixed bacterial and protozoal infections, including:

• Gastrointestinal infections (e.g., amoebiasis, giardiasis)

• Genitourinary infections (e.g., bacterial vaginosis, pelvic infections, prostatitis)

• Dental infections and gum abscesses

• Respiratory tract infections (if mixed anaerobic and aerobic bacteria are suspected)

Mechanism of Action:

• Ciprofloxacin: Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial DNA replication and leading to bacterial cell death.

• Tinidazole: Disrupts DNA synthesis in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa by forming toxic free radicals within the cell.

Dosage:

• Typical adult dose: 1 tablet twice daily after food.

• Duration: usually 5–10 days, depending on the type and severity of infection.

• Should be taken with a full glass of water and swallowed whole.

Precautions:

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 72 hours after the last dose (risk of severe nausea, vomiting, and flushing).

• Use cautiously in patients with liver or kidney impairment.

• Avoid in pregnancy (especially first trimester) and during breastfeeding.

• May interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) and antacids containing aluminum or magnesium (reduce absorption).

• Avoid driving if dizziness or visual disturbances occur.

Possible Side Effects:

• Nausea, metallic taste, vomiting

• Abdominal discomfort, diarrhea

• Headache, dizziness, fatigue

• Skin rash or allergic reaction (rare)

• Dark urine (harmless, temporary effect)

• Rare: peripheral neuropathy or seizures with prolonged use
