Maxophage 1000 XR 30 Tablets

Medication Name: Maxophage 1000 XR 30 Tablets
Active Ingredient: Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg (extended-release)

Pharmacological Class: Biguanide antidiabetic agent

Indications:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus (to improve glycemic control)

• May be used alone or with other antidiabetic agents (such as insulin, sulfonylureas, DPP-4 inhibitors, or GLP-1 agonists)

Dosage Form: Extended-release tablets (XR)

Typical Dose and Use:

• Starting dose: 500 mg once daily with the evening meal

• Maintenance dose: 1000–2000 mg once daily (or divided into two doses, depending on glycemic response)

• Maximum dose: 2000 mg per day

• Tablets should be swallowed whole; do not crush or chew.

Route of Administration: Oral

Contraindications:

• Severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m²)

• Metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis

• Known hypersensitivity to metformin

Common Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)

• Abdominal bloating or metallic taste

• Loss of appetite

Serious Side Effects (seek medical attention):

• Lactic acidosis (rare but serious): symptoms include muscle pain, fatigue, difficulty breathing, and stomach pain

• Vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use

• Store at room temperature below 30 °C

• Keep in a dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight
