Active Ingredient:
Levofloxacin 750 mg (as levofloxacin hemihydrate)

Pharmacological Class:
Fluoroquinolone antibiotic

Indications:
Used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

• Community-acquired pneumonia

• Complicated urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis

• Acute bacterial sinusitis

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Chronic bronchitis exacerbations

• Prostatitis

Mechanism of Action:
Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, resulting in bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Usual adult dose: 750 mg once daily.

• Duration varies depending on the infection (typically 5–14 days).

• Take with plenty of water. Avoid taking with milk, yogurt, or antacids containing aluminum, magnesium, or calcium.

Side Effects:

• Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness

• Insomnia, nervousness

• Tendon inflammation or rupture (rare but serious)

• QT interval prolongation

• Photosensitivity reactions

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients allergic to fluoroquinolones.

• Use with caution in elderly patients and those with renal impairment.

• Avoid excessive sun exposure during treatment.
