Active Ingredient (per tablet):

• Levofloxacin 500 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent

Dosage Form:
Film-coated tablets

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Sinus infections

• Prostatitis

Mechanism of Action:
Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Usual adult dose: 500 mg once daily

• Duration: typically 5 to 14 days depending on the type and severity of infection

• Take with or without food; swallow whole with water

• Avoid taking with dairy products or antacids within 2 hours of dosing

Side Effects:

• Nausea, diarrhea, headache

• Dizziness or insomnia

• Photosensitivity

• Rare: tendon inflammation or rupture, QT prolongation, allergic reactions

Precautions:

• Avoid in patients with history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolones

• Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment (dose adjustment required)

• Avoid unnecessary sun exposure

• Contraindicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, and in children under 18 years
