Medication Name: Klacid 125mg/5ml Suspension 70ml

Active Ingredient (per 5ml):

• Clarithromycin 125 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Macrolide antibiotic

Dosage Form:
Oral suspension

Indications:

• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Otitis media

• Helicobacter pylori–associated peptic ulcer (in combination therapy)

Mechanism of Action:
Clarithromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing bacterial growth and replication.

Dosage and Administration:

• Children (usual dose): 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours for 7–10 days

• Shake well before use

• Administer with or without food (preferably after meals to reduce stomach upset)

• Use the provided measuring device for accurate dosing

Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Abdominal pain, taste disturbance

• Headache

• Rare: liver enzyme elevation, allergic reactions

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to macrolides

• Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment

• Avoid concomitant use with certain drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 (e.g., statins, ergot alkaloids)

Storage:

• Store below 25°C before reconstitution

• After mixing with water, keep refrigerated (2–8°C) and use within 14 days

• Do not freeze

• Keep out of reach of children
