Medication Name: Ibiamox 500mg Capsules

Active Ingredient (per capsule):

• Amoxicillin 500 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic (β-lactam antibiotic)

Dosage Form:
Hard gelatin capsules — 12 capsules per pack

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis)

• Ear, nose, and throat infections

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible bacteria

Mechanism of Action:
Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: 500 mg every 8 hours or as prescribed.

• Severe infections: 1 g every 8 hours.

• Children: Dose based on body weight (usually 25–50 mg/kg/day in divided doses).

• May be taken with or without food, but taking it after meals can minimize stomach upset.

Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)

• Skin rash or allergic reaction

• Rare: hepatic dysfunction or antibiotic-associated colitis

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins.

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.

• Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of resistant organisms.
