Medication Name: Glucovance 5/500mg 30 Tablets

Active Ingredients:

• Glibenclamide (Glyburide) 5 mg

• Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Combination of sulfonylurea (glibenclamide) and biguanide (metformin) antidiabetic agents

Indication:
Used in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control when treatment with both glibenclamide and metformin is appropriate, as an adjunct to diet and exercise.

Dosage:
One tablet once or twice daily, as prescribed by the physician.
Dose adjustments may be needed based on blood glucose levels, renal function, and therapeutic response.

Administration:

• Take orally with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects from metformin.

• Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.

• Maintain adequate hydration during treatment.

Precautions:

• Monitor blood glucose regularly to prevent hypoglycemia.

• Use caution in elderly patients, and in those with renal or hepatic impairment.

• Alcohol may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

• Adjust dose during illness, dietary changes, or increased physical activity.

Possible Side Effects:
Hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), weight gain, skin reactions (rash, itching), and rarely hematologic abnormalities.
