Epilat Retard 20 mg (20 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Nifedipine 20 mg (Retard formulation) – Calcium channel blocker

Therapeutic Class:
Antihypertensive and antianginal agent

Indications:

• Essential hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Chronic stable angina pectoris

• Vasospastic (Prinzmetal’s) angina

Dosage and Administration:

• Typical dose: 1 tablet (20 mg) once or twice daily, depending on clinical response.

• Tablets should be swallowed whole with water, preferably after meals.

• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet (retard form ensures slow release).

• Dosage may be adjusted by the physician according to blood pressure and tolerance.

Mechanism of Action:

• Nifedipine blocks calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac cells.

• Causes vasodilation of peripheral and coronary arteries.

• Reduces systemic vascular resistance, blood pressure, and cardiac workload.

• Improves oxygen delivery to myocardial tissue by dilating coronary vessels.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe hypotension

  • Cardiogenic shock

  • Recent myocardial infarction (use with caution)

• Use with caution in:

  • Heart failure, aortic stenosis, or hepatic impairment

• Avoid grapefruit juice (may increase nifedipine levels).

• Monitor blood pressure regularly during therapy.

Possible Side Effects:

• Headache, flushing, dizziness

• Peripheral edema (especially ankles)

• Palpitations or tachycardia

• Fatigue, nausea, or mild constipation

• Rare: Gingival hyperplasia with long-term use
