Active Ingredient:
Empagliflozin 25 mg

Pharmacological Class:
SGLT2 inhibitor (Sodium–Glucose Cotransporter-2 inhibitor)

Indications:
Used in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to:

• Improve glycemic control as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.

• Reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.

• May also be used in heart failure or chronic kidney disease management as prescribed.

Dosage Form:
Film-coated tablets

Administration:

• Taken orally once daily, with or without food.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.

Mechanism of Action:
Empagliflozin inhibits the SGLT2 enzyme in the renal proximal tubules, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.

Common Side Effects:

• Increased urination

• Genital or urinary tract infections

• Thirst or dehydration

• Hypoglycemia (when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas)

• Dizziness

Precautions:

• Not for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

• Monitor renal function regularly.

• Use with caution in patients with hypotension or those taking diuretics.

• Ensure adequate hydration.
