Dilatrol 6.25 mg (30 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Carvedilol 6.25 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Non-selective beta-blocker with alpha-blocking properties (antihypertensive and cardioprotective agent)

Indications:

• Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Management of chronic stable angina pectoris (chest pain due to coronary artery disease)

• Treatment of mild to moderate chronic heart failure (used in combination with other heart medications)

• Secondary prevention after myocardial infarction to reduce mortality and improve heart function

Dosage:

• Hypertension: Start with 6.25 mg twice daily; may increase gradually to 12.5–25 mg twice daily depending on response.

• Heart failure: Begin with 3.125 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, then increase gradually to 6.25 mg, 12.5 mg, and 25 mg twice daily as tolerated.

• Angina or post–myocardial infarction: Typically 6.25–25 mg twice daily as prescribed.

• Take with food to minimize the risk of orthostatic hypotension (sudden drop in blood pressure when standing).

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with:

  • Severe heart failure requiring intravenous inotropic support

  • Severe bradycardia or advanced heart block

  • Bronchial asthma or severe COPD

  • Cardiogenic shock or unstable cardiac conditions

  • Known hypersensitivity to carvedilol

• Caution in diabetic patients (may mask signs of low blood sugar).

• Avoid abrupt withdrawal—taper gradually under medical supervision.

• Monitor blood pressure, heart rate, blood glucose, and kidney function regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Fatigue or weakness

• Bradycardia (slow heart rate)

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

• Fluid retention or swelling in legs (in heart failure patients)

• Nausea or diarrhea

• Cold hands and feet

• Rare: bronchospasm, worsening heart failure, or allergic reactions
