Medication Name: Delzosin 600 mg Tablets (6 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Azithromycin 600 mg

Pharmacologic Class: Macrolide antibiotic

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis).

• Skin and soft tissue infections.

• Otitis media (middle ear infection).

• Certain sexually transmitted infections (such as Chlamydia trachomatis).

• Used as part of combination therapy for Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections in immunocompromised patients.

Dosage and Administration:

• Typical adult dose: 500–600 mg once daily for 3 to 5 days depending on the infection.

• May be taken with or without food; taking with food may reduce stomach irritation.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve earlier.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, erythromycin, or other macrolide antibiotics.

• History of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with previous azithromycin use.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with liver impairment or kidney disease.

• May prolong QT interval; caution in patients with heart rhythm disorders or those taking QT-prolonging medications.

• Possible risk of bacterial resistance if treatment is stopped prematurely.

• Avoid concurrent use with ergot derivatives (risk of ergot toxicity).

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Abdominal pain or discomfort

• Headache or dizziness

• Temporary taste disturbances

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

• Liver dysfunction (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine)

• Severe diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile

• Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
