Atacand 4 mg (14 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Candesartan cilexetil 4 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) – Antihypertensive

Indications:

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels.

• Heart Failure: Improves symptoms and reduces the risk of hospitalization in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, particularly when ACE inhibitors are not tolerated.

Dosage:

• Hypertension:

  • Usual starting dose: 4–8 mg once daily.

  • Maintenance dose: may be increased gradually up to 32 mg once daily, depending on response.

• Heart Failure:

  • Starting dose: 4 mg once daily, doubled at intervals of at least 2 weeks up to a maximum of 32 mg once daily or the highest tolerated dose.

• May be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

Mechanism of Action:

• Candesartan blocks the binding of angiotensin II to AT₁ receptors in blood vessels and adrenal glands.

• This leads to vasodilation, reduced blood pressure, and decreased strain on the heart.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Pregnancy (especially during 2nd and 3rd trimesters)

  • Severe hepatic impairment or cholestasis

  • Hypersensitivity to candesartan or any component of the product

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Renal impairment or renal artery stenosis

  • Dehydration or low blood volume

  • Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels)

• Avoid using potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics unless prescribed.

• Monitor renal function and serum potassium regularly during therapy.

• May cause dizziness; avoid driving or operating machinery if affected.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fatigue

• Low blood pressure (especially after the first dose)

• Headache

• Elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

• Rare: impaired kidney function, rash, or angioedema
