Medication Name: Flumox 1000mg Tablets

Active Ingredients (per tablet):

• Amoxicillin 500 mg

• Flucloxacillin 500 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic (β-lactam antibiotic combination)

Dosage Form:
Film-coated tablets — 15 tablets per pack

Indications:

• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis, abscesses, wound infections)

• Bone and joint infections

• Urinary tract infections

• Mixed bacterial infections caused by β-lactamase–producing organisms

Mechanism of Action:

• Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis.

• Flucloxacillin is β-lactamase–resistant, protecting amoxicillin from enzymatic breakdown and extending its antibacterial coverage against resistant staphylococci.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: 1 tablet (1000 mg) every 8 hours.

• Children: Dose adjusted by weight and medical advice.

• Best taken after meals to reduce gastric discomfort.

• Treatment duration: typically 5–10 days, depending on infection severity and clinical response.

Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)

• Allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, anaphylaxis in rare cases)

• Rare: cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis, or antibiotic-associated colitis

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins.

• Caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.

• Discontinue use if signs of allergy or liver dysfunction occur.
