Torsamolex 10 mg (20 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Torsemide 10 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Loop Diuretic (Water Pill) – Antihypertensive and Anti-edema Agent

Indications:

• Edema (fluid retention) caused by:

  • Congestive heart failure

  • Chronic kidney disease

  • Liver cirrhosis

• Hypertension (high blood pressure) – used alone or with other antihypertensives

Dosage:

• Edema: Usual starting dose is 10–20 mg once daily; can be increased gradually according to response.

• Hypertension: 5–10 mg once daily; may be adjusted if blood pressure remains uncontrolled.

• Take preferably in the morning to avoid frequent nighttime urination.

• Can be taken with or without food.

Mechanism of Action:
Torsemide inhibits the Na⁺/K⁺/2Cl⁻ cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, leading to:

• Increased urinary excretion of sodium, chloride, and water

• Decreased circulating blood volume

• Reduction in edema and blood pressure

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Anuria (no urine output)

  • Severe electrolyte imbalance (e.g., low sodium or potassium)

  • Hepatic coma

  • Hypersensitivity to torsemide or sulfonamides

• Use with caution in:

  • Renal impairment

  • Diabetes mellitus (may increase blood glucose)

  • Gout or hyperuricemia (may raise uric acid)

  • Patients taking digoxin, corticosteroids, or lithium

• Monitor electrolytes, kidney function, and blood pressure regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

• Increased urination and dehydration

• Hypokalemia (low potassium)

• Hyponatremia (low sodium)

• Muscle cramps or weakness

• Elevated uric acid or blood glucose levels
