Novonorm 0.5 mg (30 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Repaglinide 0.5 mg – Oral antidiabetic agent from the meglitinide class

Therapeutic Class:
Antidiabetic (used in type 2 diabetes mellitus)

Indications:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults whose blood glucose levels are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone.

• May be used as monotherapy or in combination with metformin or other oral antidiabetic drugs.

Dosage and Administration:

• Starting dose: 0.5 mg before each main meal.

• Dose may be titrated upward based on blood glucose response.

• Maximum single dose: 4 mg; maximum total daily dose: 16 mg.

• Take 15–30 minutes before eating; skip the dose if the meal is skipped.

Mechanism of Action:

• Repaglinide works by stimulating insulin release from the pancreatic β-cells through inhibition of ATP-dependent potassium channels.

• Provides rapid and short-term insulin secretion, mainly targeting postprandial (after-meal) glucose control.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Type 1 diabetes mellitus

  • Diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Severe hepatic impairment

• Use with caution in renal or hepatic dysfunction.

• Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c levels regularly.

• Avoid alcohol intake to reduce risk of hypoglycemia.

Possible Side Effects:

• Hypoglycemia (especially if meals are delayed or missed)

• Headache, dizziness, nausea

• Abdominal pain, diarrhea

• Rare: Increased liver enzymes, skin rash, visual disturbances
