Active Ingredient:

• Escitalopram 5 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) – Antidepressant

Indications:

• Major depressive disorder in adults

• Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)

• May also be used for panic disorder or social anxiety disorder depending on physician guidance

Dosage:

• Usual adult starting dose: 5–10 mg once daily, usually in the morning or evening.

• Dose may be adjusted based on clinical response and tolerability.

• Can be taken with or without food.

Mechanism of Action:

• Escitalopram selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin in the central nervous system, increasing serotonin levels in the synaptic cleft, which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or citalopram

  • Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors or pimozide

• Use with caution in:

  • History of mania or bipolar disorder

  • Seizure disorders

  • Liver or kidney impairment

  • Elderly patients

• Monitor for suicidal thoughts or unusual changes in behavior, especially in young adults.

Possible Side Effects:

• Nausea, diarrhea, or constipation

• Dizziness or drowsiness

• Insomnia or sleep disturbances

• Dry mouth

• Sweating

• Rare: serotonin syndrome, QT prolongation, severe allergic reactions

Storage:

• Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
