Pharmacological Class:

• Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and thiazide diuretic combination

Dosage Form:
Tablets — 14 per pack

Indications:

• Treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by candesartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone.

Mechanism of Action:

• Candesartan: Blocks angiotensin II at AT1 receptors, causing vasodilation, reduced aldosterone secretion, and decreased water retention.

• Hydrochlorothiazide: Increases sodium and water excretion by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal tubule, lowering blood volume and pressure.

• Combined, they produce a synergistic antihypertensive effect.

Dosage:

• Typical dose: One tablet once daily, with or without food.

• Dose may be adjusted by the physician according to blood pressure response.

Precautions:

• Monitor renal function, electrolytes, and blood pressure regularly.

• Avoid in pregnancy, severe renal or hepatic impairment, or refractory electrolyte imbalance.

• Use with caution in patients taking potassium supplements, NSAIDs, or other antihypertensives.

Common Side Effects:

• Dizziness, headache

• Fatigue or weakness

• Hypotension

• Increased urination

• Electrolyte imbalance (low sodium or potassium changes)

• Rarely, elevated creatinine or uric acid
