Active Ingredients:
Glimepiride 2mg
Metformin Hydrochloride 500mg

Pharmacological Class:
Antidiabetic combination (Sulfonylurea + Biguanide)

Indications:
Used to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, or single-agent therapy (glimepiride or metformin alone) are insufficient.

Mechanism of Action:

• Glimepiride: Stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells.

• Metformin: Decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity.

Dosage:

• Typical starting dose: 1 tablet once or twice daily with meals.

• The dose should be individualized based on blood glucose levels and tolerance.

• Take with food to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort from metformin.

Precautions:

• Avoid use in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment.

• Monitor renal function before and during therapy.

• Risk of hypoglycemia, especially if meals are skipped.

• Stop treatment temporarily before radiologic studies with iodinated contrast.

• Not suitable for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Possible Side Effects:

• Hypoglycemia (from glimepiride)

• Nausea, diarrhea, or stomach discomfort (from metformin)

• Headache or dizziness

• Weight gain (mild)

• Rarely, lactic acidosis (serious but uncommon)
