Active Ingredient:
Cefixime 100 mg per 5 ml

Pharmacological Class:
Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:
Used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis)

• Otitis media

• Urinary tract infections

• Gonorrhea (uncomplicated)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

Mechanism of Action:
Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to the rupture and death of bacterial cells.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults and children >12 years: 200–400 mg daily (once or divided twice daily).

• Children (6 months–12 years): 8 mg/kg/day, either as a single dose or divided into two doses.

• Route: Oral

• Shake the bottle well before each use. Administer with or without food, but preferably after meals to reduce stomach upset.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins.

• Use with caution in renal impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary.

• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

Possible Side Effects:

• Diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain

• Headache

• Rash or allergic reactions

• Rare: Pseudomembranous colitis, liver enzyme elevation, anaphylaxis
