Regcor 5 mg (10 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Nicorandil 5 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Antianginal and vasodilator agent

Indications:

• Prevention and treatment of angina pectoris (chest pain) caused by reduced blood flow to the heart

• Often prescribed for patients with stable angina or when other antianginal drugs (like beta-blockers or calcium channel blockers) are not sufficient or not tolerated

Dosage:

• Usual adult starting dose: 5 mg twice daily (morning and evening).

• The dose may be increased to 10 mg twice daily if needed and tolerated.

• Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or without food.

Mechanism of Action:

• Nicorandil has a dual mechanism:

  • Nitrate-like effect: dilates coronary arteries and veins, improving oxygen delivery to heart tissue.

  • Potassium channel–opening effect: relaxes vascular smooth muscle and reduces cardiac workload.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe hypotension (low blood pressure)

  • Cardiogenic shock or acute pulmonary edema

  • Concurrent use with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil) due to risk of severe hypotension

• Caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.

• Avoid sudden discontinuation to prevent rebound angina.

• Regular monitoring of blood pressure is advised.

Possible Side Effects:

• Headache (very common at the start of treatment)

• Dizziness or flushing

• Nausea or vomiting

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

• Ulceration in mouth, gastrointestinal tract, or anal area (rare but specific to nicorandil)

• Fatigue or weakness

Storage:
Store below 25°C, in a dry, cool place, protected from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
