Pharmacological Class:
Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:
Used for treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections, including:

• Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Bone and joint infections

• Septicemia

• Meningitis

• Gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted infections

Mechanism of Action:
Ceftriaxone inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death.

Dosage:

• Adults: 1–2 g once daily or divided doses depending on infection severity.

• Children: Dose based on body weight (usually 50–75 mg/kg/day).

• Administer intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV) as directed by a healthcare professional.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy.

• Adjust dose in renal or hepatic impairment.

• Monitor for signs of superinfection with prolonged use.

Possible Side Effects:
