Medication Name: Ozempic 0.25 mg Pre-filled Pen

Active Ingredient:
Semaglutide 0.25 mg per dose

Pharmacological Class:
GLP-1 receptor agonist (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 analogue)

Indications:
Used in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to:

• Improve blood glucose control as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.

• Reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.

Dosage Form:
Pre-filled multidose injection pen containing 2 mg/1.5 ml solution for subcutaneous injection (delivers 0.25 mg per dose).

Administration:

• Administer subcutaneously once weekly in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

• Rotate injection sites with each dose.

• The 0.25 mg dose is an initial starting dose for the first 4 weeks to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

• Not intended for long-term maintenance; dose is usually increased after 4 weeks.

Mechanism of Action:
Semaglutide mimics the action of the natural hormone GLP-1, enhancing insulin secretion when blood sugar is high, reducing glucagon release, delaying gastric emptying, and promoting satiety.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation

• Decreased appetite

• Abdominal pain

• Fatigue

• Injection site reactions

Precautions:

• Not for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

• Monitor for signs of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal symptoms.

• Use caution in patients with a history of thyroid tumors or medullary thyroid carcinoma.

• Gradually increase dose to minimize nausea.

Storage:
Store unused pens in a refrigerator (2–8°C). Once in use, the pen can be stored at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 6 weeks. Keep away from direct heat and light.
