Novonorm 2 mg (30 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Repaglinide 2 mg – Oral antidiabetic agent (meglitinide class)

Therapeutic Class:
Antidiabetic (for type 2 diabetes mellitus)

Indications:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non–insulin-dependent) in adults, particularly when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood glucose.

• May be used alone (monotherapy) or in combination with metformin or other oral hypoglycemics.

Dosage and Administration:

• Initial dose: 0.5–1 mg before each main meal.

• Maintenance dose: Adjust according to blood glucose response; maximum single dose is 4 mg, maximum daily dose 16 mg.

• Take within 15–30 minutes before meals.

• If a meal is skipped, the dose should also be skipped.

Mechanism of Action:

• Repaglinide stimulates insulin release from pancreatic β-cells by closing ATP-dependent potassium channels.

• Leads to rapid, short-acting insulin secretion that helps control postprandial (after-meal) blood glucose spikes.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Type 1 diabetes mellitus

  • Diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Severe liver impairment

• Use with caution in:

  • Elderly patients

  • Those with hepatic or renal impairment

• Avoid skipping meals after taking the drug (risk of hypoglycemia).

• Regular monitoring of blood glucose and HbA1c is recommended.

Possible Side Effects:

• Hypoglycemia (especially if meal is delayed or missed)

• Headache, dizziness, nausea

• Abdominal discomfort or diarrhea

• Rare: Elevated liver enzymes or allergic rash

Storage:

• Store below 25°C, protected from moisture and direct sunlight.

• Keep out of reach of children.
