Novonorm 1 mg (30 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Repaglinide 1 mg – Oral antidiabetic agent (meglitinide class)

Therapeutic Class:
Antidiabetic (for type 2 diabetes mellitus)

Indications:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults where diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood glucose.

• Can be used as monotherapy or in combination with metformin or other oral hypoglycemic drugs.

Dosage and Administration:

• Initial dose: Usually 0.5–1 mg before each main meal.

• Dose can be adjusted gradually based on blood glucose response.

• Maximum single dose: 4 mg; maximum daily dose: 16 mg.

• Take 15–30 minutes before a meal.

• If a meal is skipped, skip the corresponding dose to prevent hypoglycemia.

Mechanism of Action:

• Repaglinide increases insulin secretion by stimulating pancreatic β-cells through inhibition of ATP-dependent potassium channels.

• Acts rapidly and for a short duration, mainly controlling post-meal blood glucose spikes.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Type 1 diabetes mellitus

  • Diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Severe hepatic impairment

• Use cautiously in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.

• Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly.

• Avoid alcohol, as it can enhance the risk of hypoglycemia.

Possible Side Effects:

• Hypoglycemia (especially if meals are delayed or missed)

• Headache, dizziness, nausea

• Abdominal discomfort, diarrhea

• Rare: Elevated liver enzymes, allergic rash

Storage:

• Store below 25°C, away from moisture and direct sunlight.

• Keep out of reach of children.
