Indications:
Used to treat intestinal infections caused by protozoa and certain viruses, including:

• Giardiasis

• Amoebiasis

• Cryptosporidiosis

• Rotavirus or norovirus-related diarrhea

• Other parasitic or mixed gastrointestinal infections

Mechanism of Action:
Nitazoxanide inhibits the pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) enzyme-dependent electron transfer reaction, disrupting anaerobic energy metabolism in susceptible organisms, leading to their death.

Dosage:

• Adults and adolescents (≥12 years): 1 tablet (500 mg) every 12 hours for 3 days

• Tablets should be taken with food to improve absorption.

• Treatment duration may be extended based on medical advice for resistant infections.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with liver dysfunction.

• Safety in children under 12 years not established for tablet form.

• If symptoms persist or worsen after 3 days, re-evaluation by a physician is necessary.
