Active Ingredient:

• Torasemide 5 mg – Loop diuretic

Therapeutic Class:
Loop diuretic and antihypertensive agent

Indications:

• Edema (fluid retention) associated with:

  • Congestive heart failure

  • Liver cirrhosis

  • Chronic kidney disease

• Hypertension (high blood pressure), either as monotherapy or in combination with other antihypertensives

Dosage:

• For edema: Usually 5–20 mg once daily; dose may be adjusted as needed.

• For hypertension: 2.5–5 mg once daily, adjusted by the physician according to response.

• Take in the morning with or without food to minimize nighttime urination.

Mechanism of Action:

• Torasemide inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the ascending loop of Henle.

• Increases urine output, reduces body fluid volume, and lowers blood pressure.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Anuria (no urine output)

  • Hypersensitivity to torasemide or sulfonamides

• Use with caution in:

  • Patients with electrolyte imbalances (especially low potassium or sodium)

  • Kidney or liver impairment

  • Diabetes mellitus or gout

• Monitor electrolytes and kidney function during prolonged use.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness (especially on standing)

• Frequent urination

• Dehydration or electrolyte disturbances (low potassium, sodium, or magnesium)

• Fatigue or muscle cramps

• Rare: Increased uric acid or blood sugar levels

Storage:

• Store below 30°C in a dry, cool place away from moisture and sunlight

• Keep out of reach of children
