Medication Name: Duricef 500 mg Capsules (12 Capsules)
Active Ingredient: Cefadroxil 500 mg

Pharmacologic Class: First-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections (such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis).

• Urinary tract infections (including cystitis and pyelonephritis).

• Skin and soft tissue infections (cellulitis, abscesses, impetigo).

• Bone and joint infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: Usually 500 mg to 1 g every 12 to 24 hours, depending on infection type and severity.

• Take orally with or without food; taking it with food can help prevent stomach upset.

• Swallow the capsule whole with water.

• Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve before finishing.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to cefadroxil, other cephalosporins, or formulation components.

• History of severe allergic reaction to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.

Precautions:

• Caution in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustment may be required.

• Cross-allergy may occur in individuals allergic to penicillin.

• Long-term use can result in bacterial or fungal overgrowth.

• Stop treatment immediately if allergic reactions or severe diarrhea develop.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Stomach discomfort or pain

• Rash or itching

• Headache or dizziness

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Severe hypersensitivity reactions (angioedema, anaphylaxis)

• Liver enzyme abnormalities or jaundice

• Severe diarrhea due to Clostridium difficile infection
