Medication Name: Duricef 1000 mg Dispersible Tablets (6 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Cefadroxil 1000 mg

Pharmacologic Class: First-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis.

• Urinary tract infections, including cystitis and pyelonephritis.

• Skin and soft tissue infections such as cellulitis, impetigo, and abscesses.

• Bone and joint infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: Usually 1 g (1000 mg) once or twice daily, depending on the type and severity of infection.

• The tablet can be swallowed whole with water or dispersed in a small amount of water before swallowing.

• May be taken with or without food; if stomach upset occurs, take with food.

• Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to cefadroxil, other cephalosporins, or any component of the medication.

• History of severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to penicillins.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment; dose adjustment may be required.

• Cross-sensitivity can occur between penicillins and cephalosporins.

• Long-term or repeated use may cause secondary infections such as oral or vaginal fungal overgrowth.

• Discontinue use and seek medical advice if allergic reactions occur (rash, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulty).

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea or vomiting

• Diarrhea or abdominal discomfort

• Mild rash or itching

• Headache or dizziness

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)

• Liver dysfunction (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine)

• Severe or prolonged diarrhea (possible Clostridium difficile infection)
