Medication Name: Duricef 1000 mg Tablets (8 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Cefadroxil 1000 mg

Pharmacologic Class: First-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:

• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis).

• Urinary tract infections such as cystitis and pyelonephritis.

• Skin and soft tissue infections including cellulitis, abscesses, and wound infections.

• Bone and joint infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: Usually 1 g (1000 mg) once or twice daily depending on infection severity.

• May be taken with or without food; taking it with food can reduce stomach irritation.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.

• Complete the entire prescribed course even if symptoms improve early.

Contraindications:

• Known hypersensitivity to cefadroxil, other cephalosporins, or formulation components.

• History of severe allergic reaction to penicillin or beta-lactam antibiotics.

Precautions:

• Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary.

• Possible cross-reactivity in penicillin-allergic patients.

• Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of resistant organisms or fungi.

• Discontinue immediately if signs of hypersensitivity or severe diarrhea occur.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

• Abdominal discomfort

• Skin rash or itching

• Headache or mild dizziness

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Severe allergic reaction (swelling, difficulty breathing)

• Liver or kidney dysfunction signs (dark urine, jaundice)

• Severe persistent diarrhea due to Clostridium difficile
