Dilatrol 25 mg (30 Tablets)

Active Ingredient:

• Carvedilol 25 mg

Therapeutic Class:
Non-selective beta-blocker with alpha-blocking activity (antihypertensive and cardioprotective agent)

Indications:

• Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)

• Management of chronic stable angina pectoris

• Treatment of mild to moderate heart failure (in combination with diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or digoxin)

• Improvement of survival and reduction of cardiovascular events after myocardial infarction

Dosage:

• Hypertension: Usual starting dose is 12.5 mg once daily for the first two days, then increased to 25 mg once daily.

• Heart failure: Start with 3.125 mg twice daily, gradually increasing to 25 mg twice daily depending on tolerance.

• Angina or post–myocardial infarction: 12.5–25 mg twice daily as directed by the physician.

• Should be taken with food to slow absorption and reduce the risk of dizziness or hypotension.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Severe heart failure requiring IV inotropes

  • Asthma or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

  • Severe bradycardia, AV block (second or third degree), or cardiogenic shock

  • Known hypersensitivity to carvedilol

• Use cautiously in diabetic patients (may mask symptoms of hypoglycemia).

• Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent rebound hypertension or angina.

• Monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and blood glucose regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or fatigue

• Bradycardia (slow heart rate)

• Hypotension (low blood pressure), especially after the first dose

• Weight gain or fluid retention (in heart failure patients)

• Nausea or diarrhea

• Cold extremities or worsening of peripheral circulation

• Rare: worsening heart failure, bronchospasm in susceptible individuals

Storage:
Store below 25°C, in a dry place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
