Active Ingredient:
Clindamycin phosphate (equivalent to 600 mg clindamycin base)
Pharmacological Class:
Lincosamide antibiotic
Dosage Form:
Sterile injectable solution for intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) administration
Indications:

Severe infections caused by susceptible anaerobic bacteria and gram-positive organisms

Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, lung abscess)

Skin and soft tissue infections
-
Bone and joint infections (including osteomyelitis)
-
Intra-abdominal and pelvic infections
-
Septicemia and endocarditis caused by sensitive strains
Mechanism of Action:
Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing peptide chain elongation and bacterial growth.
Dosage and Administration:

Intramuscular (IM): 300–600 mg every 8–12 hours for moderate infections; up to 1200 mg/day for severe infections.

Intravenous (IV): 600–2700 mg/day in 2–4 divided doses depending on severity.

Administer IV slowly over at least 10–60 minutes (not as a rapid bolus).

Dosage should be adjusted based on infection type, patient weight, and renal/hepatic function.
Side Effects:

Pain or irritation at injection site

Diarrhea or pseudomembranous colitis

Nausea, vomiting

Rash or allergic reactions

Transient liver enzyme elevation
Precautions:

Avoid intrathecal administration.

Monitor liver and kidney function during prolonged use.

Stop treatment if severe diarrhea develops (risk of Clostridium difficile–associated colitis).

Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.

Not recommended for newborns under 1 month unless specifically indicated.
