Composition

Each suppository contains:

• Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) – 80 mg (typical infant dose)

Indications

• Relief of mild to moderate pain in infants (teething, earache, post-vaccination pain)

• Reduction of fever when oral intake is difficult (vomiting, sore throat, refusal to swallow)

Mechanism of Action

• Paracetamol acts on the central nervous system to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, resulting in antipyretic (fever-reducing) and analgesic (pain-relieving) effects without significant anti-inflammatory action.

Dosage & Administration

• Route: Rectal

• Infants (based on weight):

  • 10–15 mg/kg every 4–6 hours as needed

  • Maximum: 4 doses per 24 hours

• Do not exceed the total daily dose of 60 mg/kg/day

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to paracetamol

• Severe liver impairment

Precautions

• Use with caution in infants with hepatic or renal impairment

• Do not give with other paracetamol-containing products

Side Effects

• Rare: Skin rash, allergic reaction

• Very rare: Hepatic toxicity with overdose
