Active Ingredient:
Ceftriaxone 1000 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic

Indications:
Used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

  • Urinary tract infections

  • Intra-abdominal and biliary tract infections

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Bone and joint infections

  • Meningitis and septicemia

  • Gonorrhea and pelvic inflammatory disease

Mechanism of Action:
Ceftriaxone inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which leads to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults: 1–2 g once daily, or divided into two doses (every 12 hours) depending on infection severity.

  • Children: 50–75 mg/kg/day (not exceeding 2 g/day).

  • Route: Intravenous (IV) injection or infusion only.

  • For IV injection: Reconstitute with sterile water for injection (10 mL for a 1 g vial).

  • For IV infusion: Reconstitute and further dilute in 50–100 mL of compatible IV fluid (e.g., 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% glucose) and infuse over 30 minutes.

Precautions:

  • Contraindicated in patients allergic to cephalosporins.

  • Use cautiously in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment.

  • Do not mix or co-administer with calcium-containing solutions (especially in neonates).

  • Adjust dosage in severe infections or organ dysfunction.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Local irritation or phlebitis at the injection site

  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting

  • Allergic reactions (rash, pruritus, urticaria)

  • Headache or dizziness

  • Rare: Anaphylaxis, hemolytic anemia, pseudomembranous colitis
