Cefotax 1000mg IM\IV Vial

Indications:
Used to treat moderate to severe bacterial infections, including:

• Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis)

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Bone and joint infections

• Septicemia

• Meningitis

• Gonococcal infections

Mechanism of Action:
Cefotaxime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.

Dosage:

• Adults: 1–2 g every 8–12 hours, depending on infection severity.

• Children: Dose based on body weight (usually 50–100 mg/kg/day divided every 6–12 hours).

• Administer intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV) as prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Precautions:

• Avoid in patients with known cephalosporin or penicillin allergy.

• Dose adjustment may be required in renal impairment.

• Monitor for signs of superinfection with prolonged use.

Possible Side Effects:

• Pain or inflammation at injection site

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Rash or mild allergic reactions

• Rare: Clostridioides difficile–associated diarrhea, hemolytic anemia, liver enzyme elevation
