Active Ingredient:
Levofloxacin 500 mg (as levofloxacin hemihydrate)

Pharmacological Class:
Fluoroquinolone antibiotic

Indications:
Indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Urinary tract infections and pyelonephritis

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Prostatitis

• Intra-abdominal infections

Mechanism of Action:
Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, disrupting DNA replication and transcription, leading to bacterial cell death.

Dosage and Administration:

• Typical adult dose: 500 mg once daily by intravenous infusion.

• Infuse over at least 60 minutes.

• Duration depends on infection type and severity (usually 5–14 days).

• Dose adjustment required in renal impairment.

Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

• Headache, dizziness, insomnia

• Tendon pain or inflammation (rare but serious)

• QT interval prolongation

• Hypersensitivity reactions

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones.

• Use cautiously in elderly patients and those with renal dysfunction.

• Avoid concurrent use with corticosteroids (increased tendon rupture risk).

• Avoid excessive sunlight exposure during treatment.

Storage:
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and freezing. Use immediately after reconstitution or dilution.
