Mounjaro 15 mg / 0.6 ml (1 KwikPen)

Active Ingredient:

• Tirzepatide 15 mg per 0.6 ml – Dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.

Pharmaceutical Form:

• Pre-filled injection pen (KwikPen) for subcutaneous use.

Therapeutic Class:

• Antidiabetic and weight management medication.

Indications:

• Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults to improve glycemic control, used along with diet and exercise.

• May also be prescribed for chronic weight management in overweight or obese adults (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with comorbidities such as hypertension or dyslipidemia).

Dosage and Administration:

• Route: Subcutaneous injection (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm).

• Typical starting dose: 2.5 mg once weekly, increased gradually every 4 weeks as tolerated.

• Maintenance dose: 5–15 mg once weekly depending on response and tolerance.

• Mounjaro 15 mg is usually used after dose escalation as the maintenance or maximum dose.

• Inject once weekly, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.

• If a dose is missed, administer as soon as possible within 4 days; if more than 4 days have passed, skip and continue with the next scheduled dose.

Mechanism of Action:

• Tirzepatide mimics the effects of both GIP and GLP-1, two natural incretin hormones that:

  • Increase insulin secretion in response to high blood sugar.

  • Decrease glucagon secretion.

  • Slow gastric emptying.

  • Promote satiety, leading to reduced appetite and weight loss.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC).

  • Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2).

  • Known hypersensitivity to tirzepatide or any component.

• Use cautiously in:

  • Pancreatitis history.

  • Severe gastrointestinal disease.

  • Renal impairment (monitor hydration).

• Not recommended for Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

• Monitor blood glucose, renal function, and weight regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Very common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, decreased appetite.

• Common: Abdominal pain, dyspepsia, fatigue, injection site reactions.

• Rare: Pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, allergic reactions, hypoglycemia (especially if used with insulin or sulfonylureas).

Storage:

• Store refrigerated (2–8°C).

• Can be kept at room temperature (up to 30°C) for up to 21 days if needed.

• Do not freeze.

• Keep away from direct light and out of reach of children.
