Gastrobiotic 200mg 20 Tablets

Medication Name: Gastrobiotic 200 mg Tablets (20 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Rifaximin 200 mg

Pharmacologic Class: Non-systemic antibiotic (rifamycin derivative)

Indications:

• Traveller’s diarrhea caused by non-invasive strains of Escherichia coli.

• May also be used under medical supervision for intestinal bacterial overgrowth or irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D).

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: 200 mg orally every 8 hours for 3 days for traveller’s diarrhea.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to rifaximin or other rifamycin antibiotics.

• Not recommended in diarrhea with fever, blood in stool, or caused by invasive pathogens.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with severe liver impairment (Child-Pugh C).

• Safety in children under 12 years has not been established.

• Though absorption is minimal, monitor for secondary infections such as Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.

Common Side-Effects:

• Abdominal pain

• Flatulence (bloating)

• Headache

• Nausea

• Dizziness

Serious Side-Effects (rare):

• Allergic reactions such as rash or swelling

• Severe or bloody diarrhea after treatment

Storage Conditions:

• Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

• Keep out of reach of children.
