Flumox 250 mg 100 ml Suspension

Medication Name: Flumox 250mg/5ml Suspension

Active Ingredients (per 5 ml):

• Amoxicillin 250 mg

• Flucloxacillin 250 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic (β-lactam antibiotic combination)

Dosage Form:
Oral suspension — 100 ml bottle (powder for reconstitution)

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Skin and soft tissue infections (impetigo, abscesses, cellulitis)

• Bone and joint infections

• Otitis media and sinusitis

• Urinary tract infections

• Mixed bacterial infections caused by β-lactamase-producing organisms

Mechanism of Action:
The combination provides broad antibacterial coverage:

• Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.

• Flucloxacillin is resistant to β-lactamase enzymes, protecting amoxicillin from degradation and extending activity against resistant staphylococci.

Dosage and Administration:

• Children: 25–50 mg/kg/day (based on the amoxicillin component), divided into 3 doses every 8 hours.

• Adults: Usually 5–10 ml every 8 hours.

• Shake well before use and administer after meals to reduce gastric irritation.

• Reconstitute the powder with the amount of water indicated on the bottle, shake well, and store in the refrigerator. Use within 7 days after reconstitution.

Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)

• Skin rash or allergic reactions

• Rare: cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis, or pseudomembranous colitis

Precautions:

• Avoid in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins.

• Adjust dose in patients with renal impairment.

• Discontinue if allergic reaction occurs.

Storage:
Store dry powder below 25°C.
After reconstitution, keep refrigerated (2–8°C) and discard after 7 days.
Keep out of reach of children.
