Medication Name: Doxycost 200 mg Tablets (10 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Doxycycline hyclate 200 mg

Pharmacologic Class: Tetracycline antibiotic

Indications:

• Respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

• Urinary tract infections.

• Sexually transmitted infections including chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis (as part of combination therapy).

• Acne and skin infections.

• Malaria prophylaxis and treatment.

• Rickettsial infections (such as typhus and Rocky Mountain spotted fever).

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: Usually 200 mg once daily or 100 mg every 12 hours, depending on the type and severity of infection.

• Take with a full glass of water while sitting or standing upright to avoid throat irritation.

• Preferably taken with food or milk to minimize stomach upset (absorption may be slightly reduced but remains effective).

• Avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet.

• Complete the entire prescribed course even if symptoms improve.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to doxycycline or other tetracyclines.

• Children under 8 years of age (risk of permanent tooth discoloration).

• Pregnancy and breastfeeding, unless prescribed by a physician.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with liver impairment.

• Avoid prolonged sun exposure or use sunscreen to prevent photosensitivity reactions.

• Avoid taking with antacids, calcium, iron, or zinc supplements within 2 hours before or after the dose, as they interfere with absorption.

• May decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives—use additional contraception during treatment.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

• Abdominal pain or discomfort

• Headache or dizziness

• Sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)

Serious Side Effects (rare):

• Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing)

• Liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine)

• Intracranial hypertension (persistent headache or vision changes)
