Medication Name: Dapsone 100 mg Tablets (20 Tablets)
Active Ingredient: Dapsone 100 mg
Pharmacologic Class: Sulfone antibiotic and anti-inflammatory agent
Indications:
-
Treatment of leprosy (Hansen’s disease), usually in combination with other antileprosy drugs.

Dermatitis herpetiformis (chronic blistering skin condition associated with celiac disease).
-
Certain cases of acne and other chronic skin infections caused by susceptible organisms.
-
Prophylaxis and treatment of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia in immunocompromised patients (e.g., HIV).
Dosage and Administration:

Usual adult dose: 50–100 mg once daily, depending on the condition and patient response.

Take orally with or after food to minimize stomach upset.

Follow the prescribed dose schedule carefully; do not stop abruptly without medical advice.
Contraindications:
-
Known hypersensitivity to dapsone or other sulfone drugs.

Severe anemia or significant blood disorders.

Severe liver disease.
Precautions:
-
Monitor blood counts regularly; dapsone may cause hemolysis (especially in patients with G6PD deficiency).

Use cautiously in patients with liver or kidney impairment.

May cause methemoglobinemia (reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of blood).

Inform the physician if symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, or bluish skin appear.
Common Side Effects:

Nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite

Skin rash or itching

Mild anemia
Serious Side Effects (rare):

Hemolytic anemia or methemoglobinemia (signs: fatigue, pallor, cyanosis)

Peripheral neuropathy (tingling or numbness in hands or feet)

Severe allergic skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Liver dysfunction (yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine)
