Active Ingredients:

• Amlodipine 5 mg (Calcium channel blocker)

• Telmisartan 160 mg (Angiotensin II receptor blocker, ARB)

Therapeutic Class:
Combination antihypertensive – Calcium channel blocker + ARB

Indications:

• Essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults, especially for patients not adequately controlled with monotherapy.

• Helps reduce cardiovascular risk in patients requiring dual therapy.

Dosage:

• Usual adult dose: One tablet once daily, preferably at the same time each day.

• Can be taken with or without food.

• Dose adjustments may be necessary based on blood pressure response and patient tolerance.

Mechanism of Action:

• Amlodipine: Blocks calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, causing vasodilation and lowering blood pressure.

• Telmisartan: Blocks angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion.

• Combined action provides synergistic blood pressure reduction through complementary mechanisms.

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Hypersensitivity to amlodipine or telmisartan

  • Severe liver impairment

  • Bilateral renal artery stenosis

• Use with caution in:

  • Renal or hepatic impairment

  • Electrolyte imbalances (especially potassium)

  • Heart failure or volume depletion

• Monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolytes regularly.

Possible Side Effects:

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Fatigue

• Peripheral edema (swelling of hands/feet)

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)

• Flushing or headache

• Rare: angioedema, kidney impairment, palpitations
