Medication Name: Diavance 5/500mg 30 Tablets

Active Ingredients:

• Vildagliptin 5 mg

• Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg

Pharmacological Class:
Combination of DPP-4 inhibitor and biguanide antidiabetic agent

Indication:
Used in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control when both vildagliptin and metformin are appropriate, as an adjunct to diet and exercise.

Dosage:
One tablet once or twice daily, as prescribed by the physician.
Dose adjustments may be required based on renal function and blood glucose response.

Administration:

• Take orally with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects from metformin.

• Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.

• Maintain adequate hydration during treatment.

Precautions:

• Evaluate renal function before starting therapy and periodically thereafter.

• Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment or metabolic acidosis.

• Monitor for symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially if used with insulin or sulfonylureas.

• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.

Possible Side Effects:
Hypoglycemia (mainly when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas), gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), headache, urinary tract infections, and rarely pancreatitis.
