Active Ingredient:
Human Insulin (soluble insulin) 100 IU/ml

Pharmacological Class:
Short-acting human insulin

Indications:
Used to manage blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2). It may be used alone or in combination with intermediate or long-acting insulin preparations.

Dosage Form:
Multidose vial containing 10 ml of solution for injection (each ml contains 100 IU of insulin).

Administration:

• Administer subcutaneously, typically 15–30 minutes before meals.

• Common injection sites: abdomen, thigh, buttock, or upper arm.

• Rotate injection sites within the same region to prevent lipodystrophy.

• Can also be administered intravenously under medical supervision.

• Dosage must be individualized according to blood glucose monitoring and physician instruction.

Mechanism of Action:
Facilitates cellular glucose uptake and utilization, inhibits hepatic glucose output, and promotes glycogen storage. It also helps regulate lipid and protein metabolism.

Onset, Peak, and Duration:

• Onset: approximately 30 minutes

• Peak: 1.5–3.5 hours

• Duration: up to 8 hours

Common Side Effects:

• Hypoglycemia

• Local injection site reactions (pain, redness, or swelling)

• Lipodystrophy at injection site

• Weight gain

• Rare allergic reactions

Precautions:

• Frequent blood glucose monitoring is required.

• Avoid injecting if the solution is cloudy or contains particles.

• Adjust insulin dose with changes in diet, activity, or illness.

• Use cautiously in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.

Storage:

• Unopened vial: Store in a refrigerator (2–8°C).

• In-use vial: May be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 4 weeks.

• Protect from heat and direct sunlight. Do not freeze.
