Xithrone 25ml Suspension

Medication Name: Xithrone 200 mg/5 mL Oral Suspension (25 mL bottle)
Active Ingredient: Azithromycin (usually 200 mg per 5 mL)
Drug Class: Macrolide antibiotic

Indications:

Xithrone Suspension is used for bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:

• Respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Ear infections (otitis media)

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Typhoid fever

• Certain gastrointestinal and genitourinary infections

Mechanism of Action:

• Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria.

• It inhibits protein synthesis, preventing bacterial growth and replication (bacteriostatic effect).

• Has a long half-life, allowing once-daily dosing and short treatment duration.

Dosage and Administration:

• Children: 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days, or as prescribed by the physician.

• Shake the bottle well before each use.

• Measure doses accurately using the provided measuring syringe or spoon.

• May be taken with or without food, but taking with food can reduce stomach upset.

• Complete the entire course as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early.

Side Effects:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort

• Headache, dizziness, or fatigue

• Rare: rash, allergic reactions, elevated liver enzymes, QT prolongation (in patients with heart issues)

Warnings and Precautions:

• Avoid in cases of allergy to macrolides (azithromycin, clarithromycin, erythromycin).

• Use with caution in liver disease or kidney impairment.

• Avoid use with drugs that may cause QT prolongation (e.g., certain antiarrhythmics).

• Do not use for viral infections (e.g., colds or flu).

Storage:

• Store at room temperature (below 25°C) before reconstitution.

• After reconstitution (mixing with water), store at room temperature or refrigerated, depending on manufacturer’s instructions.

• Shake well before each use.

• Discard after 5–7 days (check package for exact period).
